Bread, butter, jam & tea came to us from the Colonial era - what did we eat before that ? It is like if you ask the people from the Punjab they will say parathas; or the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka have those must have rice dishes; or the South Indians will have their Idlis etc .............. trust you get the gist of what I am seeking for an answer. I am not sure that Paya or Khima is strictly Bohra oriented - is it ?
Well in India specially in Bombay where everything was easily available, & living in a bohra neighbourhood, we used to have beda paav (eggs & bread), paya & tandoori roti , kheema paav, kabab paav, malai with roti or bread, toast or bread with jam/jelly and butter(masko), with either tea or milk with some biscuits (khari, jeera butter biscuits, toast, khakris, etc.) This is what used to consist of the typical breakfast in our home.
Well not all the above items were served on each & every day, but only one item on a single day.
